What does AFAIK mean?
A shorthand that limits a statement to what the writer currently knows.
Also written: afaik · as far as I know
The meaning
AFAIK means “as far as I know.” It tells readers that a statement matches the writer’s present knowledge, while allowing that missing information or a later correction could change the answer.
What’s the tone?
Informal, cautious and matter-of-fact; usually helpful rather than doubtful, though it can sound distancing in a disagreement.
When and how to use it
Use it before or after information you believe is true but cannot fully guarantee, especially in messages, forums and comment threads. It is useful for being transparent about uncertainty, but it should not replace checking a fact when accuracy matters.

Does the library stay open late on Fridays?
AFAIK, it closes at eight, but the holiday schedule may be different.
No one has changed the shared document yet, afaik.
Easy to misread
AFAIK is not AFK, which means “away from keyboard.” It is also different from IIRC: AFAIK limits a claim to your overall knowledge, while IIRC specifically warns that you are relying on memory.
A little context
AFAIK is established written internet shorthand. Merriam-Webster documents examples in online posts and mainstream publications and notes that it had been written about by the early 1990s; this is evidence of long use, not a claim about its first appearance.
